Stairlift Grants & Funding
Few people know that you can get funding and grants to help you with the cost of a stairlift. We understand that applying for funding can be stressful, which is why we’ve laid out some information to help you work out your options.
One thing you should bear in mind is that most stairlift financial assistance and grants need to be approved before you start work.
If you want more information about the funding or grants that may be available to you, you should contact your local dealer, but we’ve laid out some basic information below. It might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Does Medicare cover stairlifts costs?
Currently, Medicare does not cover stairlifts costs. While Medicare coverage does extend to various types of medical equipment, stairlifts are considered to be a separate from the “patient lifts” that fall under Medicare’s Durable medical equipment (DME) coverage. It’s unfortunate that Medicare does not help with stairlift costs, but Stannah will be well-prepared to coordinate with Medicare should that change. In the meantime, there are several other financial assistances, grants and payment options to consider.
Does Medicaid cover stairlifts?
In many states, Medicaid helps pay for stairlifts. Historically, Medicaid was only provided to individuals in nursing homes. However, Medicaid Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waivers have paved the way for seniors to obtain these benefits within their own home or community. These waivers allow individuals to live in their own homes and will help pay for modifications such as a Stannah stairlift.
However, these waivers do have certain restrictions that are specific to each state. Enrollment is often limited and sometimes waiting lists exist for these services. Click to read more about Medicaid coverage on stairlifts.
